We are all accustomed to promises. We are also accustomed to seeing them made and broken. No one can ever claim to having kept ALL his promises. There are many reasons for this. Sometimes we forget, sometimes we are negligent, and sometimes it may be due to circumstances beyond our control. Now a promise is of no more value than is the ability of the one who makes it to carry through. It also includes willingness to do so.
What about the promises of God? How certain are they?
By some counts, God has issued more than forty thousand promises in The Holy Bible. That’s a lot of promises !
However, God always keeps his promises. He always does exactly what He says. He carries out and fulfills all of His promises, no matter how many of them there are. God never takes back or changes His promises. None of God's promises ever fail. God's promise to Abraham was first spelled out in Genesis Chapter 12. It was repeated in Genesis 22:18 “and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me." God did carry His promise with Abraham. Over the space of 4,000 years (Abraham to now), God’s promises have been THOROUGHLY TESTED and found TRUE.
God always tells the truth. The Bible is the truth. One of the definitions of promise is, “A legally binding declaration that gives the person to whom it is made a right to expect or to claim the performance or forbearance of a specified act.” Since God cannot lie, we can then conclude that everything He says is legally binding and we can expect and claim the performance of what He has said.
What this means is that if we are including any of God’s promises in our prayers then we know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that we are praying in God’s will ! If God says it, then it is already true! If it is already true, then it will happen!
God's absolute trustworthiness has been consistently demonstrated over a long time. The Scripture record shows unequivocally that God keeps His promises. If God has promised, the promise is TRUE, and God will not change His mind. You can COUNT ON God's promises
How can I benefit from these promises?
These promises were made to be used -- they were made to be used by God's children, by all who will believe them and appropriate them. They were not made to lay concealed in a gilt-edged Bible, but to be read, understood and used. The fact is, the Bible is like a bank cheque book put into the hands of the needy and we are to use them when we want anything as God has given promises to every class and description of persons.
However, there is one important thing that we have to do in order to claim any of God’s promises. We have to believe that the promise is true. It’s not easy to believe something we can’t see. That’s where faith enters the picture. Firstly, we have to believe that God’s Word is true, then we have to claim the promise. Read it out loud. Remind God that He said it. Tell Him that you are claiming it for yourself and your situation.
If we understand and get this impression deeply imbedded into our own minds, we can draw liberally and freely upon this divine bounty of blessings.
As you start receiving “God’s Promise for Today” and believe in their ABSOLUTE RELIABILITY, we pray that "…my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)
